The library and reading room of the monks is currently housed on the premises of the Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior. It was first organized in 1980 by the six monks who first founded the monastic community, through the contribution of their university textbooks and other books. It is open to both the public and scholars, and serves as a reading room for special researchers and educational institutions from throughout the region. It has been organized in accordance with the Dewey Decimal Classification System.
It currently houses 19.000 books in Greek, 1.200 foreign-language books, 1.500 magazine, journal and newspaper issues, and is being constantly enriched, primarily through the donation of books or other noteworthy journals. 50% of the content currently kept at the library has been electronically catalogued and digitized, a project that is not funded by any public or private institution and depends exclusively on the charitable contributions of the monks and friends of the library. After forty years of uninterrupted function, both the library and the reading room are in need of refurbishment and reorganization with modern mechanical support.
