SUMMER CAMPS

“Transfiguration of the Savior”

The “Transfiguration of the Savior” children’s summer camps were established in 1993 by the Directorate of Welfare of the Prefecture of Aetolia-Acarnania, and operate every summer, overseen by the Directorate of Family and Child Affairs of the Region of Western Greece. Outdoor camping activities are organized every summer, for children and adolescents aged 9 to 16, aiming at participants’ moral and Christian education, and their familiarization with the Greek and Orthodox traditions. The programs are supported by dozens of specially trained volunteers together with the monastic fraternity. Youths who participate will have the opportunity to mold a more responsible, socially conscious personality, and gain appreciation for the traditions of our homeland through learning about Greek culture and Orthodoxy. Returning to their families they will be able to use what they have learned to be useful members of society, wherever they might be.

The campsites are located on the coast, at Kosteika in Kato Vasiliki, in the Municipality of Nafpaktia, half an hour from Nafpaktos (2 km from the Ionia Odos, Gavrolimni exit). The property on which the camps have been established was donated to the Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration by the Taxiarches parish of Gavrolimni for the express purpose of hosting youth summer camps and youth activities.
